Primary Elections
The third graders have been very excited about the primary elections! They’ve researched the candidates using our school’s brand new Chrome Books, and written essays about which candidate would make the best president. In April, they received posters, stickers and buttons from two presidential candidates! (John Kasich and Hillary Clinton) One of Hillary Clinton’s representatives even visited the class and delivered a signed photograph of Hillary!
Metropolitan Museum of Art
The third graders went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to explore the Japanese art and architecture that they’ve studied over the last few weeks. They enjoyed seeing the kimonos, samurai armor, tea ceremony items, and the Japanese shrine!
Learning to Look
The third grade students learned all about the elements of art while carefully studying portraits of famous Americans like George Washington in this month’s Learning to Look class. Using what they learned about portraits, they created their own self-portraits in class. The results are beautiful!
Biographies
The third graders have been working hard on his month’s school-wide writing assignment. They’ve been researching well-known figures such as Harry Houdini, Frida Kahlo, Jackie Robinson, and Benjamin Franklin. Next they’ll be writing the biographies using their research notes. Stay tuned for the final products!
My class’s act of kindness was for Christmas. We signed up on NewYorkCares.org and “adopted” two children in need. The two children requested books for Christmas. The students donated money and we went shopping at 192 Books for books for the kids. The students chose the books and we’ll be shipping them this week.
